College admission counselor: Job description

The job of a college admission counselor is versatile and quite comprehensive. Primarily he/she works as an academic administrative counseling authority. Although the responsibilities and work profile of a counselor may vary from one college to another, the general profile of a college admission counselor is mentioned here.

  • An admission counselor works on behalf of the college and selects best and prospective students for taking admission in the college he/she is representing. In most of the cases he/she works with quota within a stipulated time frame.
  • An admission counselor visits different community events, college fairs, and other educational fairs and presents the benefit for studying in his/her college. He/she reports to Director of admissions.
  • Admission counselors conduct interviews with interested/prospective students, evaluates their grades, goes through their college essays, and finally decide on their eligibility to get admission in that college for further study.
  • The counselor keeps a track with all relevant data related to this admission process and depending on their close analysis decides admission strategy and different perspectives for the next season.

The post of a college admission counselor is quite challenging as the role involves lots of coordination and communication. As these roles are extremely result oriented and this is the reason the concerned person should have excellent knowledge of sales and people management.

An expert admission counselors help students in understanding the formalities related to admission and if necessary the support of financial loans etc. These trained professionals not only promote their school/college/institutions for getting maximum students enrolled in it, they also look for students benefit in joining their school/institution for their academic/professional career.
